Fusion Proxy vs Decodo: a Smartproxy alternative guide

Smartproxy is now called Decodo. If you are looking for a Smartproxy alternative, compare your existing product and settings with the current Decodo offering. Fusion Proxy is worth considering for a proxy connection used by your own browser or script; Decodo also offers a broader web-data product range.

Which fits your project?

When to consider Fusion Proxy

Consider Fusion Proxy for prepaid residential traffic and country, state or city selection in your own client, or dedicated static IPs for recurring connections.

When to consider Decodo

Consider Decodo when its targeting options, existing integrations or Web Data API fit your work. A familiar Smartproxy setup may already continue under the Decodo name.

Do you need to switch because Smartproxy changed its name?

A change of brand name is not itself a reason to migrate a working proxy integration. Decodo’s rebrand page states that Smartproxy became Decodo and that existing configurations, accounts and services continue. If your immediate problem is finding the dashboard or understanding an old invoice, start with the provider’s own transition information. Check the product and endpoint in your account before assuming that the service has been discontinued.

Searching for a Smartproxy alternative can still be sensible when your budget, target locations or application requirements have changed. Write down that practical reason for considering a switch. For example, a team may now need a dedicated static IP for an allowlist, or may want to purchase residential traffic for an occasional project. Compare those needs against both providers’ current products. Keep a working old configuration while you evaluate another service, and distinguish a provider migration from a simple update to the name used in your internal notes.

Compare a monthly plan with a prepaid purchase

Decodo’s residential page lists a 10 GB monthly plan at $35 plus VAT and pay-as-you-go at $4 per GB plus VAT. Fusion Proxy’s published 10 GB tier is $2.13 per GB, or $21.30 for that traffic purchase before any checkout adjustments. These are different purchasing arrangements. Put the billing frequency, taxes, any promotion and what happens to unused traffic beside the amounts before making a budget decision.

Use the traffic you expect to consume during the project, rather than buying a large bundle solely to reach an advertised starting rate. Fusion Proxy’s $0.65 per GB tier requires 10,000 GB. A small test should be planned around its actual order size. If your work is regular, compare a month of completed results and the amount of traffic used. If it is occasional, compare the full project and the balance remaining afterward. Keep any separate collection API or browser-hosting charges in the same worksheet.

Do you need a city, postcode or network?

Decodo’s residential product lists targeting by continent, country, state, city, ZIP code and ASN. Fusion Proxy’s standard residential product documents country, state and city selection. That difference matters when a project specifies a particular network or postcode. Check the required setting on the exact product you intend to buy, and test the location rather than assuming a similarly named option behaves identically.

For a regional shopping check, record the connection location and the delivery postcode entered on the website. Keep language and currency choices consistent too. An existing account or cookie can influence the page even when the proxy location changes. Run a few examples from every market the project needs, including any market with a narrow availability requirement. Compare the page that appears and the fields saved by your tool. A provider can have broad country coverage while a particular city or network still needs confirmation for your scheduled run.

Keep the distinction between proxies and Web Data API

Decodo lists a Web Data API alongside its proxy products. Check whether your current code sets a proxy on an ordinary HTTP client or calls a service that returns prepared content or structured fields. Those integrations leave different amounts of work with your application. The account name on an invoice will not tell you which of those tasks a replacement must perform.

Fusion Proxy provides proxy connections for clients that you operate. Your script or browser must still load the necessary page, parse the required fields and handle the output. If you already have that code, test a new endpoint without changing the parser at the same time. If the existing Decodo integration produces the records for you, estimate the work of replacing that functionality before deciding to migrate. You can keep the API for one project and use a separate proxy for another. The comparison should follow the task, not require every job to use the same supplier.

Use an API for the fields it provides and a browser when you need to inspect the rendered page.

Check the browser profile and the session together

For an authorized business account, a proxy endpoint is only one part of the browser setup. Keep the account’s profile, cookies and language settings with the connection used for its visit. If several people manage the same account, agree who is responsible for the profile and recovery method before changing providers. Avoid changing the account settings and the proxy configuration in one test, because that makes an unexpected result harder to diagnose.

Fusion Proxy’s residential product supports sticky settings from 1 to 120 minutes. Choose a duration long enough for the planned visit and confirm the address during the test. Record the session behavior of the existing Decodo configuration separately, using the current account settings. A residential session can be interrupted by the underlying connection becoming unavailable. If one assigned address is needed across many days, compare static ISP products and their renewal terms instead. Test sign-in, navigation and a reversible account action before using the new setup for a longer scheduled task.

Replace settings through the endpoint generator

Create the new connection in the Fusion Proxy dashboard with the required location, protocol and session choice. Copy the generated host, port and credentials into a separate test configuration. Keep the existing Decodo or Smartproxy-specific connection format in its own saved configuration; usernames and session suffixes are not interchangeable simply because both providers support proxy connections.

Run an IP check in the exact client that will perform the work. Then open a known destination page and inspect its content. For a script, confirm that later requests also use the selected configuration; for a browser, check the profile or instance that will be used for the job. Keep a minimal working example before adding concurrency or a large source list. If authentication fails, verify the account balance, protocol and copied credentials before changing the parser. Share a redacted example with support when needed, showing the selected settings and error without revealing the password.

Compare the results your customer or colleague receives

A useful trial ends with usable output. For product monitoring, that might be a row containing an item identifier, variant, seller, price, currency and time. For advertising checks, it might be a screenshot showing the correct landing page in a specified market. Decide those outputs before testing and use the same sample with each provider.

Inspect successful-looking results as well as errors. A page that returned data might still show a consent screen, a different delivery region or an unavailable item. Keep the client version, location settings and browser resource loading the same in both runs. If a test fails, change one setting at a time and rerun the affected sample. Save the explanation of any changed result. This gives your team something concrete to evaluate: whether the proposed connection can perform the intended job with understandable traffic use and maintenance effort. It avoids turning a request count alone into a claim about overall provider quality.

A trial includes a regular page, a location-sensitive page and an error case in each required market
Include the kinds of pages your application will visit, including one that shows how it handles an error.

Watch for repeated downloads when you estimate traffic

Check how much your trial transfers after images, scripts and retries are included. A browser that loads a complete page will usually perform more requests than a script retrieving one HTML response. Choose the loading behavior that the job needs and keep it consistent between the two tests. Images should remain enabled for a visual page review even if a separate text-collection job can omit them.

As a planning example, a 50-page sample that transfers 25 MB suggests about 500 MB for 1,000 similar pages, before allowing for changed content or additional retries. This is an illustrative calculation, not a provider benchmark. Compare the estimate with dashboard usage after a larger test and investigate large differences. Look for loops that download the same page repeatedly or retry errors that need a configuration fix. Estimating traffic this way makes a Decodo monthly allowance and a Fusion Proxy prepaid purchase easier to compare for the same completed task.

HTML pages, scripts, images and repeated requests add up to the traffic used by a browsing or collection job
Test a small batch, check its traffic use in the dashboard, then scale the estimate to your planned run.

Move a single job without losing the working version

Save the current configuration and the expected output for a short source list. Add the Fusion Proxy configuration as a separate option, keeping the original available for rollback. Run a complete job with the same parser, schedule settings and output format. If the results differ, inspect a sample before allowing either version to update a live report or downstream database.

After a successful trial, move one scheduled task and review its next runs. Prevent both versions from sending duplicate data or repeating account actions. Keep other Decodo services running if they still have a purpose; a proxy migration does not require replacing an unrelated API integration. Once the moved task is stable, remove unused credentials and review the old subscription in its dashboard. Changing the endpoint in your code does not cancel billing or move unused credit. Document the new account owner, selected plan and location settings so another person can maintain the setup.

Save the settings with a tested page so your next run starts from a configuration you already know.

When should you keep Decodo or try Fusion Proxy?

Decodo can remain a good fit when its location controls, existing integrations or data API already meet your requirements. A working Smartproxy configuration may continue under the new brand, so evaluate it based on the current product and your results. Include the effort of recreating any provider-managed collection work before assigning a saving to a new connection.

Fusion Proxy is worth a small test when you operate your own client, its country, state and city settings fit the project and a prepaid traffic purchase suits your budget. Static ISP or datacenter products can also be compared separately when the job needs an assigned IP. Finish by writing down the product you would order, the actual traffic quantity and the pages the trial must handle. If you need help choosing, describe the application, market and session length to support. That produces a more useful recommendation than asking for a universal replacement for every Smartproxy or Decodo feature.
